7th Welcome to Boog City Festival :: New York, NY

Check out this great NYC festival in its seventh year! On Sunday, 8/4, Amelia Bentley (GS 4.1) will kick off day three of the festival at 11am, followed by our EIC Kimberly Ann Southwick. Toby Alman (GS 3.2/4.1) is reading at 1:20pm. After that, at 2:15pm, our EIC moderates a panel on the small press, focusing on “The Book as an Object”. On Monday, 8/5, our EIC hosts the d.a. levy lives series, with writers from Publishing Genius Press of Baltimore featured. Gigantic Sequins will be hosting a night of Emerson alumni for the undergrad magazine Gangsters in Concrete. Featured at this event are Olivia Kate Cerrone, Mish Cheever, Thea Siranian, and our EIC Kimberly Ann Southwick. We’ll have three Emerson alum (and GS contribs!) answering questions about the writing life post-Emerson. Where did our WLP BFAs take us? What helped us along? What do we miss most about Emerson? After we fill in students the best ways to stay writing and get involved with the lit world the best we can, our panelists will each read a short selection of their work.

GS Storyslam Contest & Fundraiser :: New York, NY

Stonewall Inn and Gigantic Sequins, with help from generous prize donors at the Museum of Sex (and others TBA), present a night, with a portion of our proceeds benefitting the Ali Forney Center, an LGBT Youth Homeless Center that lost many of its resources after Hurricane Sandy. Between 10-15 pre-selected readers will be competing for a $100 prize in front of a lively audience and three judges, including Frank Anthony Polito, Dan Wilbur, and Brian Moylan. Prizes from the Museum of Sex will be awarded to our winner and all finalists.

Come help Gigantic Sequins celebrate the release of The Emerson Review, 3-5 on the mezzanine @ the Little Building, on the corner of Tremont and Boylston Streets in Boston, MA. Our editors, three of whom are Emerson alumni, will be discussing how we started our magazine, and our contributors will be providing entertainment.
