The AWP conference & bookfair is typically jam-packed with insanely enticing lit events. We at GS are here to steer you in the right direction. Sarah Schneider (GS 3.1) has work in the group show “Nothing Special”, curated by Tilo Schwarz for the zeitraumexit gallery in Mannheim, Germany. Stop by for a guided tour the 22nd * 27th. More here. The show runs now through March 8th.

Caitlin McCormack (GS 6.1) has work up in Jinxed’s HeArt Show this month, and next month she’ll be showing in Los Angeles at La Luz De Jesus for their Laluzapalooza show.

GS 2.1 comics artist shoney lamar made a video for the NPR Tiny Desk concert with his band The Lady Comes First for their song “Belly of the Beast”. Watch it!

Goodloe Byron (GS 3.1) has a joint show with Zachary Baldus Sunday, February 22nd from 4pm-7pm at Cafe Nola in Frederick, MD. Be there.

Joshua Gabriel (GS 2.2) had work up for the Brooklyn Art Space Winter Member Salon, hosted by Trestle Gallery in Gowanus this past Friday the 13th.

Shiny Family :: Recent news from our Non-fiction contributors

Alex McElroy (GS 5.2) diagrams his latest short story “The Death of Your Son: A Flow Chart” in none other than Diagram.  We promise you, it’ll make your heart skip three beats.

Our non-fiction editor Ian Carlos Crawford interviews the cast of Peacekeepers, a queer- and trans*-friendly sci-fi web series of Geeks OUT.  DIG IT.

Mike Doughty, our current GS flash non-fiction contest judge writes a rock opera, because what can’t Mike Doughty do? The world premiere is on January 27th at the Jerome L. Greene Performance Space in NYC (hint, New Yorkers, hint).

And over at Smithsonian Magazine, Tara Isabella Burton (GS 4.1) paints a world of show business glitz, defying gender norms, and Turkey’s changing attitudes towards the gay community in “Inside the World of Istanbul’s Male Belly Dancers.”

A collection of flash fiction is maybe the perfect thing to kick this summer off right, and Len Kuntz has you covered with “The Dark Sunshine” from Connotation Press.

Kate Folk is going for the world record in amount of things published in 2014, with stories in print at Puerto del Sol, Colorado Review, and Hobart. Plus the story “Islanders” in PINBALL, and OH YEAH ALSO SHE WRITES IN ITALIAN for DUDE. If you trust the translating robots from Google you can give it a read in English. Or just learn Italian.

Gillian Lambert GS (3.1) had her Self-Deception series– part of which is in our 3.1 issue, including the cover– featured in Juxtapoz Magazine.

The first two tracks of an album by Sam Friend (2.1) were released this month. Check out SPIRIT MIRRIR via bandcamp, where you can listen for free and name your price to download it. The release party for the album is in Miami on Thursday 4/17.
Drew Falchetta (5.1) will be tabling at the Go West! Craft Fest this year in West Philly with Flying Groundhog. Check out his stuff there– or via his Etsy page if you’re not in the area.
Xiau-Fong Wee (3.2) has a piece up in UNIVERSE: The Art of Existence show up at Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco this month. The show is open now and closes May 3, 2014.
